How to Plan for Casual Photos
I’ve been working on a revamp of my brand and image this year and with that comes the need for new headshots. I believe the last time I had a professional photo taken was about 5 years ago and my hair was definitely a different color!
I chose Jona Christina Photography to take them, because I’ve know Jona for, well probably a decade now. I met her because another wedding photographer I knew hired her to photograph her wedding and the rest is history! In the following years, we worked on countless weddings and creative photo shoots together and she’s taken my headshots and our family photos many times.⠀
I also wanted to share a few tips for how to dress for casual headshots/family photos like these.
Choose an outfit that makes you feel like yourself. Choose something that you will feel comfortable in and that you won’t have to constantly be adjusting and checking. I have done that in the past and it’s horrible.
Usually it’s good idea to not choose matching outfits and just hit on coordinating and complementary colors, but as you can see, I did not take that advice! My little girl has been wanting to “look like momma” a lot lately and she really wanted her outfit to match mine.
Choose a color pallet that suites you and the place you will take photos. We took these photos in a lush, outdoor setting, so I chose an outfit that matched that.
Choose a style that won’t be out of style next month or next year. These photos will be around for a while, so it’s best to choose a classic style rather than something trendy.
Plan to allow time for your hair and makeup or hire a professional to do it for you. I normally allow about an hour and half for hair and makeup when I have my photos taken. This is considerably longer than I would take on a normal day, but as a professional, I understand the impotence of having enough time to make changes and go the extra mile to make myself look extra perfect.
I got both outfits at Old Navy, one of my favorite places to shop, and all these items on ON SALE right now! I have been obsessing over my seater and wearing it everyday!
I am absolutely in love with our photos! Hope you enjoy!
